Work will commence next week (1 Aug) to bring a much need play facility to young people in the Skerne Park area of Darlington.
Due to the overwhelming success of the previous playground build projects at Corporation Road Primary School and Firthmoor & District Community Association’s Nursery, a third project has now been launched.
As part of a pioneering community project the Coleridge Centre in Skerne Park area of town, is getting a new playground. A team of volunteers, including young people who are aiming to secure a qualification for a future with the British Army, are again joining forces with a number of former military personnel, local community volunteers and Councillors.
This project will also introduce a new addition, the Community Tree. This tree will hold leaves with the names of the businesses and the volunteers that supported on the project.
Hands On, a national organisation which helps to deliver community learning projects have begun the preparation work today (01.08.22). The finished playground is due to be handed over to young people at the Coleridge Centre on Friday (05.08.22).
Darlington MP Peter Gibson who has been involved in the planning and development of this project said
“This is yet another fantastic community project that will bring a much-needed facility to the local community in Skerne Park.
“I’m delighted that we have been able to deliver a third project in Darlington and I am really looking forward to working with the team of volunteers to create this fantastic community facility, which I know will be a perfect addition to Skerne Park and will be well used by local people for years to come”.
The project is a collaboration between Peter Gibson MP, Hands On, Darlington Borough Council, Redde Northgate, Hellens Group, Hummersknott Academy Trust and lots more generous organisations across Darlington.
Volunteers and businesses will hand over the playground to the community on Friday at 10am at The Coleridge Centre.
